Pole Barn/Garage Has Started

One of the areas of the new house that we went back and forth about before making a final decision was the garage. Originally the house had a attached garage built into the plans but as time went on we both realized we wanted a detached garage.  Then we got the quote for the detached garage and realized it was like building a small house and thought that was just a silly use of money so Guy suggested a "pole barn garage".  I knew nothing about them and thought he meant a real barn which I was totally opposed to having (unless it came with goats or horses hehe).   We spent a Saturday afternoon driving into the country where he could show me what they looked like and then when we met with our builder he had one which he allowed us to go in and see.  I was sold, if the price was right.Guy got right on it and found a builder and a quote and it came in at half the price of that detached garage and it was also much bigger so decision was made.Fast forward to this month and the construction has begun.  We decided not to put it on top of the house but instead off to the side.  We literally changed the flow of our driveway to a "Y" with the house to the left and the garage to the right.  This gives us so much more room to park the camper, the extra car and gives Guy his man cave.View of where the pole barn will reside2015-11-13 15.19.22This is where the "Y" splits2015-11-05 15.47.59The driveway to the pole barn2015-11-05 15.48.13View from the "Y" split to the house2015-11-11 14.45.16Once we laid it out the framing was started immediately. First Guy had to put up a sign for deliveries and then the framing materials arrived.2015-11-11 14.45.332015-11-11 14.44.22From there it took just over a week to get it framed Pole Barn Framing When done it will be a 40 x 30 three bay (two garage doors) pole barn.Concrete will go in as soon as this rain stops (please make it stop) and then the siding. With any luck it will be done a few days before we move in.

New House Update

Okay I've lost count of what week this is and I've lost track of what I have updated, all because things are happening so quickly.Last time I posted it was to talk about the cabinets having been installed.  Since then we have had the counter tops installed, plumbing. lighting, floors, yard and so much more.So much to write about, like the crazy ass builders awe are using, but I am saving that for another day.  Today I am just going to share some more photos.

Up Next.... Garage

It has been our intention from the beginning of the house build to have a detached garage.  Now we are far enough along in the building of the house to concentrate on location and design.  This is one area I am totally leaving up to Guy.  Except for the color of siding and roof (which will match house) the rest us up to him.We are going to go with a pole barn on concrete slab.  This way it can be bigger that a traditional build and much more affordable. Yesterday we started walking the lot to stake out the location so that we can clear the 80' x 80' approx. space we will need.  I think we are both very happy with the location. It will be away from the house, not to far away though, actually across from it. It is just off the driveway and hidden behind trees. We are going to put a main driveway to it and then a second access "trail.I think Guy is more excited about the garage then about almost anything :)[envira-gallery id="13946"]6188442_orig

Weeks 6 - 10 of our new house

We haven't slowed down for  minute since we returned home from vacation and so have become so far behind on my updates on what's happening with the house.  So much to share..  We have had some run-ins with the builder due to a terrible decision on the PM side but for this update I will just post positive things, one day maybe I will post the other story. When we left we had just the framing was continuing and the windows were being set.  Since then plumbing, electric, doors and the front porch have been added as well as our roof.  Drywall started yesterday (can't wait to see that) and the siding will be on next week we hope.
Biggest surprise to me so far is how HUGE the attic is.  There is so much storage space!! I will be buying shelving and want to make sure it is neatly organized, one day we could even add more rooms upstairs if we wished, Yes it really is that big.
