Our Winter Wildlife Tour

I saw a posting on Facebook advertising a new outing/tour of Virginia Beach called the Winter Wildlife Tour hosted by Rudee Tours (which have been around for years) and knowing they were very reputable, I jumped on the chance to book this and asked Guy if he would like to spend the day, out on the water with me. He said yes immediately which actually surprised me but I took no chances of him changing his mind and booked it right then and there. I figured if the trip was not what I was hoping, if nothing else it would give me a test run on clothing and camera equipment needed before our trip to Alaska as the weather conditions were very much going to be about the same.

It was a fantastic day! Cold, overcast, very windy which caused the boat to be a bit rocky but we really had a fantastic time. I saw so many seabirds to add to my Life Bird list (which you can check-out here) as well as Harbor Seals and a Humpback whale, the first time I have ever seen either of these in the wild.

I will be posting several of the photos from the day on my photography site (link above) but here are some others from the day as well.

Winterfest II

Guy and I decided to put our King’s Dominions annual passes to good use and went back to Winterfest for another evening to see all the sights we missed the first time.

It was a great date night and wonderful way to wrap up the holidays.

RV Road Trip To the Smokies - Clingman's Dome Trail

It was a very cool and foggy morning for a hike so we bundled up and headed out to Clingman’s Dome trail taking us to the highest viewpoint in the Smoky Mountains.

While this is a short hike, a half mile only, it was very stressful, straight up hill. We were not prepared for it to be truthful. Thank goodness they have resting benches as we and many others needed them :)

RV Road Trip To The Smoky's - Cades Cove

Finally finding some time to get caught up with things including editing the remainder of our spring trip to the Smoky Mountains.

In this video we head to Cades Cove which was just as beautiful and amazing as we had been told by so many it would be. Definitely a place we will visit every time we head back to the Great Smoky Mountains. Hope you enjoy watching.

Our Day on Lake Gaston

img_5457.jpg

Originally we were heading out for a long holiday weekend of camping but due to the events of the past few weeks I decided I wanted to stay at home for the earlier part of the weekend so from Wed - Friday that is exactly what we did. We stayed home, cleaned out closets, cleaned carpets and enjoyed the pool.

Saturday though we had promised to visit friends who own a home on Lake Gaston (on the Virginia/NC border) and Guy thought it was best for me to get out of the house and do something different so early Saturday morning we headed to the Lake. It is just a three hour drive and holiday traffic was our friend so no delays were to be had and after stopping for a quick breakfast we arrived to a beautiful day, beautiful home and beautiful lakefront to enjoy for the next day and half.

We had a fantastic time just watching the kids (and a few adults) enjoy all the water toys while we caught up, had some drinks, enjoyed the fantastic sunny weather and just relaxed. We also were taking out for a boat ride (video below) to see the lake as I had never been there before. Anyone who knows me knows that boating is one of my favorite things and I would do it every weekend if possible so I jumped on the chance to go for the ride.  I was not disappointed :)
